The Zoho Report - Episode 6

Hugh Marshall

Welcome back to The Zoho Report! In this episode, we're covering the latest updates and exciting new features coming to Projects, CRM, Forms and Desk.

Let's dive in.

1. Zoho Projects: CodeX Scripts

This one seems to have flown under the radar, but it's a significant addition. Zoho Projects now has its own version of Client Scripts, called CodeX Scripts.

CodeX Scripts are written in JavaScript and give you a whole new level of control over how your project data behaves in real time, triggered by user interactions directly in the browser, without waiting for a backend workflow.

What can you do with CodeX Scripts?

  • Validate user inputs and actions before they're saved
  • Integrate with external systems
  • Retrieve or update data within Projects based on user interactions

For teams who want to enforce data quality or automate logic on the front end, this is a meaningful step forward for the Projects platform.

2. Zoho CRM: Sandbox Email Outbox

Testing email workflows in Zoho CRM has always had a bit of a blind spot. Previously, you'd have to configure your workflows and deploy to production just to confirm that emails were actually firing correctly. That changes with the new Sandbox Email Outbox.

Every email triggered during a Sandbox testing session is now captured and visible in one place. Emails are organised by category and sending mode, and for each one you can see the subject line, what triggered it and the record it originated from. This makes it much easier to catch problems (eg missing fields, workflow condition errors, or formatting issues) before they ever reach production.

3. Zoho Forms: Enable/Disable Rules

This is a small but welcome change. Zoho Forms now lets you enable and disable rules without having to delete them.

Previously, if you needed to temporarily switch off a rule, you either had to delete the rule entirely (losing all your configuration) or manually tweak the conditions to stop it from triggering. Neither approach was ideal, especially for complex forms with a lot of conditional logic.

Now you can simply toggle a rule off, leave everything intact, and switch it back on whenever you need it. For anyone managing seasonal forms or doing active troubleshooting, this makes life considerably easier.

4. Zoho Desk: Answerbot Thresholds

Zoho Desk has introduced the ability to control how precisely the Answer Bot matches queries to your Knowledge Base articles, using three threshold levels:

  • Exact — The bot looks for articles that exactly match the question being asked. Best when precision really matters.
  • Confident — The bot interprets the query and finds closely related articles, even if the wording isn't an exact match.
  • Possible — The widest net. Useful for loosely phrased questions where broader coverage is preferred.

If your Answer Bot feels like it's falling short on responses, dialling the threshold down to Confident or Possible can go a long way in improving coverage and the overall quality of answers your customers receive.
